Barrels have to be done with perfect symmetry if they're mixed with the others. Buoy and wood bases are essentially the same (wood bases go down just a wee bit lower). After some testing, tires are clearly the best.

From what I've seen this is what you do. Let's say you want to build a 3X2 raft. You build the back layer of three 1st including floor.
